The Government of Nepal instituted the Gautama Buddha Peace Award in 2002 and the award is given every 5 years to honour individuals and institutions for their contribution to world peace. The award this year will be conferred on Mayors Tadatoshi Akiba of Hiroshima and Tomihisa Taue of Nagasaki.
